Sacratissimo Cuore della Beata Maria Vergine - Ligure (Italia)

Ecco la dimora di Dio con gli uomini!
Egli dimorerà tra di loro ed essi saranno suo popolo ed egli sarà il "Dio-con-loro".
E tergerà ogni lacrima dai loro occhi, non ci sarà più la morte, né lutto, né lamento, né affanno, perché le cose di prima sono passate. (Apoc. 21,3-4)

Fratelli carissimi,

Fra Simone è tornato alla Casa del Padre.

Fr. Simone ha trascorso la sua laboriosissima vita pressoché integralmente in terra di Missione. Partito per la Cina all’età di 22 anni, quand’era ancora studente di Teologia, venne ordinato sacerdote e Pechino nel 1942, e rimase missionario nella Missione di Heng-Yang fino al 1950, quando venne espulso dall’avvento del comunismo.

Verso il termine dei suoi studi teologici in Cina, la sua ordinazione sacerdotale stava per essere rimandata, a causa del pericolo della guerra civile, che già incombeva. Fu il Beato Gabriele Allegra (a quel tempo vice-maestro del seminario di Heng Yang) che con determinazione portò in treno fra Simone a Pechino dove il Beato Allegra trovò un vescovo che lo ordinò subito sacerdote, nel mezzo della notte. Padre Simone ha sempre ricordato il Beato Allegra per la sua determinazione che gli permise di essere ordinato sacerdote.

Tornato in Italia per breve tempo, riprese la via dell’Oriente, e si recò a prestare servizio pastorale e caritativo in Corea, dove fondò un grande lebbrosario a San-Chong e altre istituzioni caritative, come una “Città dei ragazzi”.

Altro periodo molto fecondo di servizio caritativo lo passò in Burundi, a Kayongozi, dall’84 al 98, dove fondò un piccolo villaggio per lebbrosi e orfani che è tuttora in piena espansione.

Nel 1999 Fr. Simone tornò in Liguria nella sua Provincia del Cuore Immacolato di Maria; presto fu ripreso dal desiderio di varcare ancora una volta il mare.

Chiese ed ottenne di vivere nella Custodia di Terra Santa, dove arrivò il 15 agosto 1999.

È vissuto nelle fraternità di San Salvatore, di Betlemme, dedicandosi a un’intensa vita di preghiera e all’ascolto delle confessioni. Nell’aprile del 2009 il P. Custode lo assegnava all’Infermeria di San Salvatore; e così gli scriveva;

“Vorrei anche che tu considerassi che, con questo, non termina il tuo impegno di servire la Custodia di Terra Santa: abbiamo bisogno di preghiera, e dell’offerta serena al Signore di ogni impedimento fisico, e della stessa sofferenza: sai meglio di me quanto tutto questo valga come il lavoro, o un compito specifico, o un incarico ufficiale. E sappiamo di poter contare su di te, perché davvero la tua obbedienza, la tua fedeltà alla Custodia, il tuo grande amore per la Terra Santa, sono un esempio per tutti”.

Siamo grati al Signore e alla Provincia del Cuore Immacolato di Maria per il dono di Fr. Simone.

Aveva 95 anni di età, 77 di professione e 71 di sacerdozio e 13 di servizio. Gli convengono in suffragio l’applicazione di 3 sante messe per ogni sacerdote. Gli altri religiosi partecipino a 3 sante messe e facciano 3 Via Crucis. In ogni fraternità una santa messa sia celebrata in comune. Ricordiamo con sollecitudine questo fratello nella nostra preghiera, affinché possa risplendere in lui la gioiosa misericordia del Padre.

Behold, God’s dwelling is with the human race. He will dwell with them and they will be his people and God himself will always be with them as their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, for the old order has passed away. (Rev. 21-3-4)

Dear Friars,

Fra Simone has returned to his Father’s house.

Fra Simone spent his laborious life almost entirely in the Missions. He left for China at the age of 22, while still a
student of theology, and was ordained a priest in Beijing in 1942; He was a missionary in Heng-Yang until 1950, at
which time he was expelled with the advent of communism.

While a seminarian in China, Bro Simone's ordination was threatened with delay because of the civil war. It was Blessed Gabriele Allegra (vice-maestro of the seminary in Heng Yang) who decisively brought Bro Simone by train in the night to escape to Beijing where Allegra got the bishop to ordain Bro Simone in the chapel late in the night. Simone has always remembered Allegra for this brave and decisive act, which made him a priest.

He returned to Italy for a short time, but again took the road going East, engaging in pastoral and charitable service in Korea, where he founded a large leper colony in San-Chong and other charitable institutions, including a “Boys’ Town”.

From 1984 to 1998, he passed another fruitful period of charitable service in Kayongozi, Burundi, where he founded a small village for lepers and orphans, which continues to grow to this day.

In 1999, Fra Simone returned to his home Province in Liguria, the Province of the Sacred Heart of Mary, but was soon taken up by the desire to once again cross the sea.

He asked and obtained permission to live in the Custody of the Holy Land, where he arrived in August 15, 1999.

He lived in the fraternity of Saint Saviour, and in Bethlehem, engaging in an intense life of prayer and hearing confessions. In April 2009, the Custos assigned him to the infirmary of Saint Saviour, writing him:

“I want you to also consider that this does not end your commitment to serve the Custody of the Holy Land; we need prayer, and for you to offer serenely to the Lord your physical impediment, as well as your suffering. You know better than I how much this counts as a job, or a specific task, or an official position. And we know that we can count on you, because in your willing obedience, your faithfulness to the Custody, your great love for the Holy Land, you are an example to all.”

We are grateful to the Lord and to the Province of the Immaculate Heart of Mary for the gift of Fra Simone.

Fra Simone was 95 years of age, 77 years professed, 71 years ordained and 13 years in service. It is prescribed that each priest offers 3 Masses for the deceased. The other friars will participate in three Masses and pray 3 Way of the Cross. A Mass will be celebrated in common in each fraternal house. We remember this brother with solicitude in our prayers so that he may shine forth in the joyous mercy of the Father.
